Cultivating Values in Education

VIHASA Values in Education Training | Tanzania | 5 October 2025

VIHASA recently facilitated a half-day Values in Education training for a group of 16 teachers from a Lutheran Church school in Tanzania, creating a meaningful space to reflect on the role of values in teaching, learning and the wider school community.

The session explored an important question:

How can our inner values shape the way we teach, lead and nurture young minds?

Values at the Heart of Education

Education extends beyond academic knowledge. Teachers play an important role in shaping the character, attitudes and relationships of the learners they serve.

The training provided an opportunity for educators to reflect on the values that guide their own lives and professional practice, and how these values can influence the classroom environment.

Through reflection, discussion and shared learning, participants explored ways of bringing greater awareness of respect, compassion, integrity, responsibility and understanding into their everyday interactions.

Learning and Reflecting Together

With 16 teachers participating, the session encouraged an open and engaging exchange of perspectives.

The half-day programme offered educators time to pause from the demands of their daily responsibilities and consider not only what they teach, but also the values they embody through the way they teach.

By reflecting on their own values, teachers were encouraged to recognise the powerful influence they have as role models for their learners.

Creating Values-Based Schools

Values become meaningful when they are lived and expressed in everyday actions.

The training highlighted how a values-based approach can contribute to a more caring, respectful and supportive educational environment, benefiting teachers, learners and the wider school community.

Continuing the Journey
